Navicron´s open source platforms substantially decrease development time

The wireless technology company Navicron Ltd helps its clients to move products onto the market more quickly and at less expense. Launched in Oulu, in 2004, the company provides a unique combination of hardware and software products that decrease development time for end user products.

Navicron´s new Fusion platforms, a software platform for wireless and handheld devices and a hardware platform for Linux-based wireless products, enable fast and predictable product development.

“This means significant benefits for device manufacturers. They can use Fusion Software to develop many kinds of devices such as smart phones, internet access points and multimedia players. They can use Fusion Hardware as a base for machine to machine equipment, smartphones, Internet tablets and many other mobile devices´, explains Navicron´s Managing Director Aimo Vainio.

Versatile and adaptable platforms

Fusion Software is based on a Linux kernel with a GTK based front end, so developing applications for it is both versatile and simple. According to Aimo Vainio, this means that when customers want a certain set of features, Navicron either looks at the open source community to see what's available or use applications of its own.

In addition, Fusion Software has an easy graphical user interface with full Internet connectivity. It also fits many different hardware platforms.

“And of course perfect for our own Fusion hardware platform´, Vainio points out.

The Fusion platform has a high-power application processor, support for modern wireless standards and multimedia features. It is almost entirely modular, and therefore versatile and adaptable to a range of customer needs.

Best competence in wireless technology

Navicron has created hardware and software for major cell phone manufacturers before. The company has strong competence in wireless device development - particularly in the areas of hardware, software, RF, testing, type approvals and project management.

"Our innovative engineering team have a strong background in wireless technology and many years of experience in the field´, Aimo Vainio says.

Another significant advantage for the company is its location in Oulu, which is the leader in Finland for wireless technology research, education and development as well as a primary location for Nokia´s research and development.

Navicron is growing fast. Now the company is beginning to reach out to the United States in search of a larger market and recently opened an office in Texas.
