Computer-level usability and security for business phones - Press release January 19, 2010


Sonera launches a new mobile device management solution for business phones. The need to manage business phones is growing as today’s advanced mobile phones increasingly have computer-like functionalities. With Sonera’s service, the customer can upgrade its phone usability and security to the level of office computers. Device management is carried out remotely from one location, which also saves money for the company. The service is powered by SyncShieldŽ, a solution by TeliaSonera’s technology partner Capricode.

'An increasing number of firms are now paying attention to the fact that advanced mobile phones have laptop-like functionalities increasing the need to manage their usability and security like those of office computers. Device management is a light, cost-effective solution for business phone management, and the package we are now offering makes it even easier for the customer to start using it', explains Petri Niittymäki, Senior Vice President, Business Services Finland, from TeliaSonera.

From a company perspective, centralized remote management eliminates the IT department’s need to manage the phones manually and thus generates considerable cost savings. Thanks to device management, business phone settings and software can be updated remotely from one location, which saves time and resources.

Device management also makes it possible to achieve computer-level security in mobile phones. More than 50% of business phones sold today are smart phones, i.e. advanced mobile phones holding important work-related and private information such as customer details, e-mail messages, passwords, and notes. Device management makes sure that the phones are equipped with up-to-date security software, and the devices can also be wiped remotely if they are lost.

In the future, Sonera’s device management of business phones will be based on the technology partner Capricode’s SyncShieldŽ solution. One option for the customer is to purchase device management as an integrated service where Sonera manages the customer’s business phones and provides the end user support. Alternatively, companies can choose a service option where they manage their mobile phones themselves using a web service provided by Sonera.
