Ruukki's prefabricated steel storage tank components are to be used to build seven new oil storage tanks in the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The order is worth almost EUR 6 million.

The customer, Verwater Groep Nederland, chose Ruukki as a supplier because of previous good experience when working with Ruukki. The customer was also impressed by Ruukki's delivery reliability, delivery quality and its ability to manage the delivery entity. The Port of Rotterdam is one of the busiest in the world.

'The oil storage tanks are being built to an extremely tight schedule. It's important for us to receive deliveries on time and to work with a partner capable of managing comprehensive deliveries. Ruukki's delivery accuracy will also affect oil transport logistics,' say both project managers Robin Jongen and Maikel Segers from Verwater Groep Nederland.

Three of the storage tanks to be built will have a volume of 120,000 cubic metres and be over 83 metres in diameter. The remaining four will have a volume of 40,000 cubic metres and be 42 metres in diameter.

The steel plates will be made and prefabricated at Ruukki's Raahe Steel Works in Finland and be shipped directly to the Port of Rotterdam in the form of ready-to-install steel components. Ruukki's deliveries will be complete in August this year.

Ruukki has earlier delivered similar storage tank components to Russia, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Canada and the UK.
