Waste Incineration Plant Built in Oulu - 26.11.2009
On Monday morning 23rd November 2009, the Oulu City Council decided, by 51 votes to 14, that a waste incineration plant will be built between 2010 and 2012 on Kemira's plot in Takalaanila, Oulu.
Oulun Energia, owned by the city, will construct the EUR 79-million incineration plant.
The plant will use 120 000 tonnes of unsorted waste, which is to be obtained from Oulu, the Northern parts of Ostrobothnia, and Lapland. The plant should be in production use in 2012. The City of Oulu plans to use this plant to reduce its dependence on peat, which entails a heavy emission tax.
